Start with 4Zones, free. Then give your Samsung DeX desktop a voice.
4Zones is a free window manager for Samsung DeX: tile windows, switch desktops and bring back a whole desk with one key. No root, no account. Once you work by key, each of our other apps adds something a keyboard alone cannot:
- 4Dictate, a paid app, is dictation, not voice typing: you speak, and when you stop it types finished, punctuated text at the cursor in whichever app you are using. Press its Command key and speak instead: open WhatsApp, press Send, switch on a light through 4Home, snap a window or switch desktops through 4Zones.
- 4Home, a paid app, puts your own Home Assistant under the same keys and voice. With 4Home paired, one key can turn a light on, run a scene or set the heating.
- 4Screenshots, a paid app: press your shortcut (or Capture in the app), select a region or take the whole screen, mark it up, read the text in it, and save, copy or send it. With 4Zones there is no permission question each time.
- 4Tasks, free: to-do lists and reminders that stay on your phone. Add a task or tick one off by voice with 4Dictate.
- 4PDFs, free: turns paper into PDFs you can search and copy text from.
4Zones: Samsung DeX on Android 12 or later, no root. 4Dictate: Android 13 or later, on phones, tablets and Samsung DeX. No account with us.
The apps
4Zones
On Google Play · Free
A key for everything on your DeX desktop: each of 34 layouts, each desktop, each saved workspace, each link. Shift or Caps Lock alone can be a key, and a long press a second one. Your gesture app can bring back a whole desk: point a swipe at a 4Zones shortcut key, or at a workspace on your home screen. Each key can fire from any keyboard or only from the one it was recorded on.

How they work together
Our apps can ask each other to do things, directly between apps on your device, through a door we call 4Link. Each app lists what it offers, you approve which apps may use it, and anything that changes your data asks you first. Nothing leaves the device.
- Say "snap to one" to 4Dictate, and 4Zones puts the window in front into zone one, once "Let other apps run shortcuts" is switched on in 4Zones. It is off until you turn it on.
- Say "remind me tomorrow at three to call Sandra", confirm, and 4Tasks makes the task with its reminder.
- Say "hall light on", and 4Home asks your Home Assistant to do it.
- With 4Home paired, press a key you set in 4Zones and 4Home turns the light on, runs a scene or sets the heating.
Run your own servers for speech recognition, tidy-up and task sync: Self-hosted. The 4Link specification is open for other developers: github.com/mr-bizzy/4link.
